My Journey from Hospitality to Salesforce

My journey started in May of 2020 where I didn’t even know what Salesforce was. I actually had a taste of it without even realizing I had been pulling reports from it just a few months prior.

Being in the hospitality industry, I was one of the many team members furloughed in March due to the pandemic. As my role at the time was at large convention hotel, I helplessly watched business drop and could not ignore this bad feeling that my career was about to end.

Panicked about my next move, I jumped from one online course to the next. Eventually stumbling upon Salesforce, I immediately started a free Trailhead account to learn more. After only 2 days, I got into a furlough funk and spent my days binge watching shows.

Fast forward to September, I’ve moved onto binge listening to Podcasts. One of my new favorites, ChooseFI, had an episode introducing a sister podcast, TalentStacker. Here is where I rediscovered Salesforce and the potential it had as a new career. I joined their free 5 Day Challenge and with my impending lay off looming, eventually their Salesforce Career Development Program.

Using my transferrable binging skills, I completed the “Prepare for your Salesforce Administrator Credential” in one month and passed the certification exam right after. Thanks to all the tips I’ve learned in the program, I was able to get the attention of a startup and am now working with them as a Salesforce Certified Administrator.

Being part of the program is like having a Salesforce Sherpa guide me to the top of the mountain. I couldn’t have gotten this far and this quickly without any support. Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful, I am truly excited to be part of the Salesforce Ecosystem.

How did you first hear about Salesforce? I’d love to hear your story so please share them in the comments section below.
